While Google is now promising seven years of updates for its new Pixel phones, Samsung has promised at least three years of Android updates for all flagships from 2019 and later, and extended that to four for a variety of devices including tablets, flagships, foldable phones, cheaper Galaxy A-series phones, and Galaxy Watches. With all that in mind, here are all the Samsung devices currently eligible for three or four years of major Android updates.

Besides older flagship phones, Samsung has extended its three-year policy to some Galaxy Tabs, Galaxy A-series phones, and foldables. The phones haven’t received the new security update in other regions, such as North America, yet, but we expect that to happen in the next few days. The latest software update for the Galaxy S20 FE (SM-G780G) comes with firmware version G780GXXS7EWI3 in Australia, Europe, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. This update fixes plenty of security flaws found in the previous software version of the phone. Author’s Note: The Galaxy S20 FE won’t get the Android 14 or any major software update going forward.

Samsung doesn’t need to rush to copy Google’s promise of 7 years of updates

Naturally, Galaxy users have been wondering if Samsung will copy Google’s new policy of seven years of updates for its own phones. Yes, it’s great that future Pixel devices will be supported longer, but it isn’t as significant a leap as it may seem once you realize that part of it is simply Google playing catchup. And there’s nothing stopping Samsung from taking charge again and promising five or six big OS upgrades and more than five years of security updates.
