While Samsung seems to have addressed the durability concerns on both the Flip 3 and Fold 3, there yet remains another issue: battery life. While the total capacity might come out to 3,300 mAh (or thereabouts), the Flip 3’s battery is split between the two halves of the phone. Here’s how the Galaxy Z Flip 3 held up in the Tom’s Guide battery test versus other phones.
The phone surfs the web continuously at 150 nits of screen brightness, launching a new site every 30 seconds until the battery drains. As you can see in the table above, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 doesn’t last for too long in the Tom’s Guide battery life test. Basic tasks like light web browsing, messaging and social media scrolling don’t tax the phone all that much, but spin up a game or watch a video and you can see the battery percentage drop.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 doesn’t have super fast charging to compensate for this, maxing out at 15W wired and 10W wireless. It’s all around a good (and fun) phone, but if you’re going to be away from home for a while you may want to carry around its charger and/or external battery pack just in case.

Or batteries, we should say, since there are two separate cells, one in the top and another one in the bottom half of the phone, interconnected so you get that total 3,300mAh capacity. Take this as even slightly heavier use may drain the battery before the end of the day, quicker than on your average smartphone. Yours truly has also noticed an issue with the phone overheating, while doing simple tasks like using social media, and the battery draining much quicker when you reach those last few percentage points.
The Z Flip 3 performed surprisingly well on the web browsing test, outlasting the compact S21 and almost reaching the score of the S21+, which does show that with casual use you can still get reasonable amounts of battery life on this phone and it will last you through the day.
However, on the YouTube test, we noticed only a slight improvement from the original Z Flip and the new-gen foldable didn’t last as long as even the compact Galaxy S21.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs Galaxy Flip 3 battery test
The new generation Flip comes with a larger battery but both smartphones use the same low-power-consuming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The main dissatisfaction of users with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the slow charging speed and short battery life. Also, both phones went through two rounds of battery drain tests: web browsing and watching YouTube videos. In the first round, for web-based usage scenarios, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a battery life of 10 hours and 13 minutes, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a battery life of 11 hours and 40 minutes.
